Churros with Chocolate Sauce

Churros with Chocolate Sauce

For the Churros:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Chocolate Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Prepare the Churro Dough:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  • Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.

2. Heat the Oil:

  • In a large, deep skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

3. Fry the Churros:

  • Carefully pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting the dough with scissors. Fry the churros until golden brown, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Using a slotted spoon, remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.

4. Coat the Churros:

  • In a shallow dish, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • While the churros are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until coated.

5. Prepare the Chocolate Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for a minute, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.

6. Serve:

  • Arrange the churros on a serving platter and serve with the warm chocolate sauce on the side for dipping.
